There are no separate problems. Separateness is the problem. There is no separateness. The delusion of separateness is the problem.

Problems as separate from other problems. People as separate from other people. People as separate from some separate “nature.” Mind as separate from body. From soul. From spirit. God as separate from the earth. God as separate from anything.

The attempt to separate, the delusion of separateness, is the fundamental problem of our age. It is the fundamental problem of civilization, and of science. Civilization as we know it is doomed. This is OK. Civilization as we know it is predicated upon the separation of humans from the natural world, and from each other. This is not OK.

We aim to connect that which has been separated. To reveal that which pretends to be separate is not separate. This is a big job. But what else is there? We have been doing this for many years, mostly without realizing it. From now on we want to be more intentional. More explicit. More fierce. This is the most important work we can imagine. Many of our friends and heroes are doing this work. We intend to work together. We intend to facilitate. The fight against separateness, that is. The dance against it. Separateness fears nothing so much as dancing.

Inherent in the dance against separateness is the primacy of place. Place is the opposite of Home Depot, which is the same as separateness. We intend to ally ourselves with places. Land, that is. This land may have forests on it. It may have buildings on it. It may have freeways, rivers or raised beds on it. None of these things are permanent. Nothing is. We must connect ourselves with places as they actually exist. As they live. Where we live. This is not a separate project from connecting ourselves to each other. It is also the same project as connecting with our selves.
