When is the deadline for 2020 applications?

For 2020, we’re “de-formalizing” the residency program; we’re not setting specific residency dates with application deadlines, but we’d love for folks who are a good fit to come spend time here to work on their own projects and help us with ours.  If you’re interested, get in touch with a brief note we'll go from there!

How do I apply?

What do residents provide?

Clothing and toiletries

Any specific supplies needed to execute proposed project

Food for all meals (there are grocery stores nearby)

Your own transportation to the residency and while you are here (we may be able to pick you up at the nearby Amtrak station)

Are you "off-grid?"

No!  The property is connected to both the electrical grid and the city water system for White Salmon.  The resident's cabin, however, is not connected to either water or power.  There are battery powered lights and a small charging station that can be used for cell phones, computers, etc.

Do I have to be an artist to apply?

No!  We encourage creative people of all stripes to apply who are interested in what we are offering.

Is there a fee to be a resident? Will I get a stipend?

No and no, respectively.  We are charging a $20 application fee, which goes to cover toilet paper, propane, etc.

What's the weather like?

"That depends."

The weather for the spring and fall varies widely from hot and dry to cold and rainy.  It can drop into the high 40s at night or lower.  The cabin has a portable propane heater that does a pretty good job, but be prepared to cozy up in a few blankets or a warm sleeping bag! The cabin is small and well-insulated so tends to stay pretty comfortable in anything but very cold weather.

The summer resident can expect hot, dry weather, with highs from the 80's up to a little over 100.  It almost always cools off nicely at night here though... and there are lots of swimming holes nearby!

Do you have poison oak on the land?

Yes! For the most part, if you stick to the beaten paths you will not contact any, but if you want to bushwhack off trail all bets are off...
